SOCIAL  MINISTRY COMMITTEE  UPDATE

SAKLC has received thank you letters from

the various organizations we supported with financial distributions during June.  All of the organizations are so grateful for our church’s thoughtfulness and generosity.  Summer is a quiet time with no committee meetings.  We meet again on Tuesday, September 19.  At that time, we will be planning our Fall Gift-in-Kind Drive.  This drive will be focusing on the specific needs of the homeless and disadvantaged in our community through the various organizations we are working through.  Watch for more information about our drive next month.

 All Faiths Food Bank

Their mission is to feed those in need, reduce food waste, and educate the community as to the issues of hunger.  They are located at 717 Cattlemen Road in Sarasota.  During the summer and fall months, they are always in need of volunteers to help with the sorting of food items for distribution to the community.  Contact them at 379-6333.

Resurrection  House

Resurrection House is a faith-based resource center committed to the alleviation of sufferings of the homeless by offering physical, emotional, and spiritual help and by serving as a bridge from despair to dignity.  Our church helps support this organization by donations of funds and materials.  They provide showers, free laundry, food, clothing, counseling, free clinic and prescriptions, transportation, and many other support items to the homeless.  All assistance is given freely by individuals and groups such as our church.

Last year they arranged for emergency shelter for 210 homeless families with 494 children.

They serviced over 3,000 active clients during the year of which over 1,000 were newly registered.  These services are provided by five paid staff members and over 160 volunteers.  The volunteers gave over 20,000 hours of their time for this organization.

You may contact them at 355-3759 if you wish to volunteer or help in some other manner.
