From The Pastor

From Reverend Mark A. Bernthal....

“God began doing a good work for you; and I am sure he will continue it

until it is finished when Jesus Christ comes again.”   Phil. 1:6

God is up to something in each one of us.  What is he up to?  Whatever it is, it is something good.  “I have good plans for you, not plans to hurt you.  I will give you hope and a good future.”  Jer. 29:11.  When will God be finished with us?  Scripture suggests not until Jesus comes again.  So it follows that God still has some work to do!  We may think we have peaked, or that we already know it all.  But God doesn’t think so.  He isn’t finished with us yet.  He has new doors to open, relationships to restore, challenges for us to conquer, and fresh insights to renew our faith and our lives.

Are you open to God’s working in your life?  Do you regularly listen for his voice, read his word, ask for his advice?  Do you hang out with people who do?  Remember, when God finds willing partners, he works wonders.  The Bible is full of wonderful examples (he birthed his Son through a willing Mary, defeated Goliath through a trusting David, and fed 5,000 with the glad offering of a small boy’s lunch).  But God never gives up on those who are reluctant either (remember Jonah... Moses?).  He is relentless in his persistence, eternal in his encouraging, and ceaseless in his invitations.

With that in mind, let me be persistent and ceaseless in encouraging each of you to be involved in at least some aspect of Christian education where God’s Word is opened and shared in the midst of a supportive community.

How about two suggestions to consider at St. Armands Key Lutheran Church:

On September 12, a new adult Sunday School (10:15am-10:45am in Fellowship Hall) season begins!  A mix of discussions based on the appointed Gospel lesson for the day and guest speakers will fill the year.

On October 21, Thursday morning Bible Study (10:30am in Ogram Hall) will consider “A Gardener, Two Travelers, and a Cheat (read Adam, Abraham, Sarah, and Jacob).

Remember:  Open Scripture.  Join the Conversation.
