About The SAKLC Foundation

Overview:

As an arm of St. Armands Key Lutheran Church, the Foundation offers us the opportunity to enhance the gospel of Jesus Christ.  We do this by supporting projects and programs now which will start new or improve existing legacies in the future. These funds will not be used for operating expenses; rather, they will focus on new ministries.The Trustees invest the capital gifts in market securities and use income from these in worthwhile projects.

 In recent years we have given over $100,000 to such projects such as training Lutheran Pastors, Stephen Ministry Leaders, general parish leaders, direct donations to Lutheran seminaries, Christians Linked in Mission, Joyful Servants Lutheran Church, Bread of Life Mission Church (Sarasota), Living Lord Church (Bradenton), Association of Lutheran Older Adults (ALOA) and the Dar al-Kalima Academy (Bethlehem, Israel).

 ~~~ Mission and Goals ~~~
The St. Armands Key Lutheran Church Foundation was established in 1978.  It is managed by a Board of Trustees who are members of good standing in the church.  The Foundation is a corporation and its trustees meet quarterly or as necessary.  Gifts are given to the Foundation and the trustees will hold these gifts in perpetuity, invest the capital wisely and use the earnings in worthy projects.
~~~ Participation ~~~

A request for funding should meet these criteria:

has potential for seeding new ministries

represents a demonstrated need

is to be used by a credible 501(3)(c) nonprofit organization

falls within the parameters of the Foundation's stated mission

is introduced by a written request

local relationships are encouraged

As funds are given to the Foundation, the Trustees will act as follows:

  receive the gift and determine the proper method of investment

 place the gift in the General Fund unless a special use is requested

 screen beneficiary opportunities to determine where the income will be invested

~~~ YEARLY FUNDING ~~~
Some of our church members have asked about how the Foundation decides on who and how much individual financial aid is granted each year. The answer to both of these questions lies in the Foundation’s mission and vision statements. As you can imagine there are hundreds – no, thousands of organizations out there who need financial assistance each year.
Grant requests are evaluated by the Foundation trustees at an “early in the year” meeting. Requests must fall into the parameters of the Foundation’s By-laws. Requests are discussed and an approximate dollar amount is assigned. At a subsequent meeting or meetings, after the trustees have had time to consider each request, a decision is made based on need of the recipient. The grantee is then notified.
All funds designated for distribution are not disbursed at once; but some monies are held for emergencies or special situations occurring later in the year. Funding provided by the Foundation find their way to organizations in Sarasota, other Florida locations, Mexico, India, Bethlehem, or wherever there is a need of the poor, the hungry, the sick, or the underprivileged.
